Books

Books I’ve written, contributed to, or—in the case of The Silmarillion Primer—am still working on.

Originally appearing as a series on Tor.com (Reactor), this highly revised and improved Primer guides first-time readers through J.R.R. Tolkien’s seminary work, a famously challenging read for fantasy fans in general and even some longtime Lord of the Rings fans. It includes diagrams, charts, and maps—fun graphics to bring clarity and humor to the sometimes tangled nature of Tolkien’s narrative.

My first Wizards of the Coast novel—nominated for the Scribe Award in 2009—is a stand-alone story in the Inquisitives series. Inquisitives are detectives and investigators (think PIs) in the pulp noir and high-adventure world of Eberron.

An illustrated cyberpunk anthology combined with a CD soundtrack. 19 stories, each paired with a piece of music, the efforts of eighteen authors, twelve musicians, and two illustrators.

Dungeons & Dragons game books and adventure modules I wrote or contributed to, mostly for the 3rd Edition of the game (the two Hero’s Handbooks were for 4th Edition).

  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #29: The Adventure Begins – Twenty adventures for 1st-level characters. My contribution is the adventure “The Crystal Shrine.”
  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #31: The Transmuter’s Last Touch – A fun twist on the classic 1st-level “kobold adventure.”
  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #35: Gazetteer of the Known Realms – A boxed set campaign setting for any and all DCC adventures.
  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #48: The Adventure Continues – Compilation for characters of 4th through 6th level. My contribution is the adventure “Nightmare Closet.”
  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #49: Palace in the Wastes – A tournament module for character levels 6–7. I devised a single room to this adventure.
  • Dungeon Crawl Classics #51: Castle Whiterock – A boxed set and mega-dungeon, good for a complete campaign. I wrote the accompanying gazetteer of the Kingdom of Morrain.
  • Hero’s Handbook: Dragonborn – Cowritten with Aeryn “Blackdirge” Rudel and Harley Stroh.
  • Hero’s Handbook: Tieflings – Cowritten with Aeryn “Blackdirge” Rudel.
